NCAC Review Process

What is needed for projects reviews?
How do I find a proposal?
What if I am the NCAC Member submitting the review?
Which Form do I use?
What if I run into problems?

All projects being reviewed must be submitted to the National Information Management and Support System (NIMSS).

New/renewal projects will have temporary numbers (ie. NC_temp999), while projects under midterm review should be referred to using their regular number (ie. NC777, NCCC888). When the project has been submitted as final by the writing committee, the system administrator (Christina Hamilton) will contact the NCAC committees' AA with their review assignments.  The NCAC AA then assigns these project reviews to committee members.  All NCAC reviews must be completed and submitted to NIMSS no later than the first week of February to allow the NCRA MRC time to review NCAC suggestions.

What is needed from projects up for review?

Viewing a Proposal/Annual Reports:

Refer to NIMSS Proposal Editing Quick Help for more information.  Also refer to the NIMSS User Manual v2.0 or more current NIMSS Virtual Training online within the NIMSS Help menu.

Submitting a Review:

Those committee members who are submitting a review should register in NIMSS on the NIMSS login screen (http://www.nimss.umd.edu/); click on "Register."

Administrative Advisors should have a NIMSS login and therefore should be able to sign into the system to view the project.

NCAC Committee Members: The NCAC chair should contact Christina Hamilton with a list of NCAC members who will be submitting the reviews in NIMSS on behalf of the NCAC.  If the AA will submit on behalf of the entire committee, he/she should explain that to Chris as well.

Which form do I use?

An NCA committee will submit one evaluation to the NCRA office per committee.

NIMSS automatically detects which type of project evaluation should be used for the different project types (NC, NCCC, NCERA).  If you’d like hard copies of these evaluations, they can be found here.

Evaluation of NC Projects (review of proposal) Appendix H
Midterm Review of NC Projects (only review annual reports - proposal was reviewed at inception/five-year renewal) Appendix I
Evaluation of NCCC Projects

Evaluation of NCERA Projects

Appendix J1

Appendix J2

Midterm Review of NCCC or NCERA Committees (Reviews of these projects are minor.  Since these are not research committees, the NCRA is only concerned with whether CCs and ERAs are submitting annual reports in NIMSS and if they are showing appropriate information dissemination to their stakeholders) Appendix K
  1. After you have registered and signed into NIMSS, mouse over the “Review” function on the green navigation bar and choose “Submit.”  The projects, which you are authorized to submit information for, should appear.  If you do not see the project to which you should be assigned, contact Christina Hamilton.  If the project appears, click on “NCAC Review.”

  2. Fill in the form accordingly and choose “update” when you are done.  You will be able to edit your review by going back to the same way you got there (refer to number 1 above).

  3. Please click HEREfor more information on how to complete the evaluation forms.

After submitting the review as final, it will be sent to the Multistate Research Committee. All reviews MUST be submitted by early February.
